Project Description
Kerry Manufacturing, Inc. is a world leading taste & nutrition systems manufacturer serving the food and beverage industry and a leading supplier of added value foods to the Irish and UK customers. The company established manufacturing plants in 24 different countries including the Philippines and sales offices in other different countries across the globe.
The need for a new fire pump appeared due to construction of extended manufacturing facilities at the customer’s plant in Santo Tomas, Batangas. The company has been renting a generator set that cost 96,000 pesos per month for about a year, and installation of the new fire pump should have eliminated the need in this rental service.
According to the customer’s requirements, the new pump should have had a capacity twice as high as their existing motor driven fire pumps and be in compliance with the Bureau of Fire Protection requirements to Fire Protection Systems.
After the initial visit to the site, Gotesco Service Center specialists performed estimations for Diesel Engine Fire Pump connection to the existing pipeline. Pump technical specifications and a piping layout were presented and approved by all responsible units, from project management and consultants to facilities engineers. The skid-mounted type pump system provides reliability and small footprint.
The work started on March, 14 and was completed on May 15, 2017
Challenge
The requirement was to install the ordered Diesel Fire pump within a month from the date of delivery to meet the customer’s task to eliminate the cost of renting a generator set. With the site’s distant location inside a Philippine Economic Zone Authority Industrial Park caused a necessity to acquire working permits for installation personnel, and bad weather conditions preventing installation works was also the factor that could affect timely commissioning.
Solution
After the installation of the diesel engine driven fire pump in addition to the existing fire protection system motor driven fire pump, the customer can acquire a Permit to Operate for the plant’s expanded facilities and is able to terminate the rental cost of the generator set.
