CORROSION RESISTANT PUMPS FOR SHRIMP PRODUCER

The supplied pumps are capable to deliver 20-27 m³/h (90-120 GPM) against a total dynamic head of 5 meters (7 PSI) and are used to provide water for a manmade shrimp nursery and dewatering during maintenance periods. Since pumped media include salty sea water, it was critical that pumps’ material provided proper corrosion protection.

Project Description

DATAJ Aqua Farm located in the barrio of Sta. Teresita Cagayan, a 12 hours travel from Manila, is an industrial company producing Vannamei Shrimp.

Vannamei Shrimp, also known as Pacific White Shrimp or King Prawn, is a variety of prawn of the eastern Pacific Ocean commonly caught or farmed for food.

Dataj Aqua Farm acquired at least 3,000 hectares of lot to convert the space into a hatchery of shrimp. Their requirement was to provide water for a manmade shrimp nursery and dewatering during maintenance periods. The source of water is a river and sea near the site. The pump material resistance to corrosion is an important factor, as in case of incorrect material selection, salty pumped medium can cause rust formation and damage. According to customer’s requirements, an all stainless steel pump was chosen ensuring protection against corrosion which increases lifetime of equipment.

Challenge

Continuous shrimp hatchery operation at a required capacity level is crucial for the whole farm performance. Reliability of a supplier, lead time and availability of service as well as pump characteristics were taken into serious consideration by the customer. Due to the farm remoteness, the challenge was to provide delivery, installation and commissioning with a minimum number of site visits to be able to minimize customer’s costs.

Solution

The Tsunami TSB pumps deliver 90-120 GPM against a total dynamic head of 5 meters and provide long-term operation time due to all stainless steel modification from impeller to body casing along with easy installation and maintenance. The supply lead time was short which provided additional savings for the customer.
